I hope you have all had a lovely weekend...here is your weekly Madera PTA update.
Last week was a busy one. We had our monthly PTA board meeting. It was
great seeing so many new faces in attendance. A lot of business was
covered, like releasing funds to pay for our assemblies and programs. We
discussed how plans for the Harvest Festival were moving along. New and
exciting things for the festival this year, such as food trucks, new games
and how we will be able to advertise the event to the public. We talked
about membership and how we are way ahead from last years numbers. To date,
we have 412 members, with 100% teacher participation! We only need a little over 100 members more to have 100% school-wide. So if you haven't joined, please do so. Envelopes are available in the office. Mr. Hall discussed
our API scores and how we went down by 10 points but that pretty much all
schools went down. The good news is that our scores did not go down as much
as other schools did. Finally, the gift to school committee came up with
alternative gift ideas for our school, such as hiring an art teacher, PE
teacher, adding more technology and/or more fieldtrips. Hopefully we will
have a final decision by our meeting next month.
Our room parents and art docents had their meetings last week to discuss
their roles with the Harvest Festival. Your room parents will be sending home letters this week explaining ways you can help, whether with the Harvest Festival or in the classroom. Please look for them in your child's backpacks.
Due to picture day this Thursday, we will not have Spirit Thursday. We will
resume Spirit Thursdays on the 26th. It was great seeing so much Madera
Blue last week. Congratulations to Mrs. Sweet's second grade class who won
for the lower grades and to Mrs. Russell's sixth grade class who won for the
upper grades. Both classes had over 80% participation. They now have the
Spirit Wear trophies displayed proudly in their classrooms. Let's see which
classes will be the winner next time. Go Mustangs!!!
Last week we had our first assembly of the school year, the Brock Edwards
Magic Show. He performed some amazing magic while teaching the kids about bullying. It was a lot of fun for the kids. If your child missed it, no
worries because Mr. Edwards will be performing at Madera on Friday,
September 27 at 6:30pm. Tickets are on sale now for $5 a piece and will be
on sale the night of the event. So bring your chairs, maybe a picnic dinner
or snacks and come watch as Mr. Edwards saws Mr. Hall in half! You won't
want to miss out on that!!!
If you are on facebook, Target stores are giving money away to schools. All
you have to do is visit Madera's facebook page, click on the Target school
giveaway and vote for Madera. It's quick and easy and one way to help our
school earn some extra bucks.
I believe that's it for this week. If you have any questions, thoughts or
concerns, please feel free to contact me at anytime.
Thank you and have a fabulous week.
