I hope you all had a fun and relaxing holiday break… If you ask me, it went by way too fast!
Well we only have a few weeks left in the school year. It is so hard to believe it. If I do not get the chance to thank you personally before school lets out in June I would like to thank you now. In some way or another you each helped make my two years as your president a lot easier. So thank you for your time, talents and support. I am so honored to have served with each of you and look forward to continuing our journey in advocating for our children and school, maybe not as your president but as a fellow PTA member.
So enough of that, here is your Madera update…
Tomorrow starts STAR testing for grades 2-6. Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep, eats a nutritional breakfast (brain food) and gets to school on time! For questions about STAR testing, please contact the school office.
This Friday evening at 6pm the PTA will be hosting its second annual Jr. Olympics Potluck Awards Dinner. It will be held at Madera. This event is for all 4th-6th graders and their families that participated in Jr. Olympics. Invitations were sent home the week before spring break. Please RSVP to me or turn in your form to the school office by Wednesday.
Tuesday, May 10th the PTA will be having its last Association meeting of the school year. This is the time we will be voting on our gift to school. So if you want a say on how our money gets spent, please plan on attending. It will be in P3 at 6:30pm. Immediately following we will have our monthly board meeting for all PTA board members.
Friday, May 13th is Atherwood Elementary’s Spring Fling. We have been asked to help run a booth at the event. If you are available to help out it is from 4:30-7:30 at Atherwood. For those of you that do not know, Atherwood’s PTA graciously helped run our pumpkin decorating booth at our Harvest Festival, so I would like to return the favor. Besides, it’s a fun night of games with an auction too. Doesn’t matter that it’s not for Madera, just remember it’s for the children…
May 16th through May 20th will be Staff Appreciation Week at Madera. If you are a room parent, please make sure you have all the information you need to help make that week a memorable one for Madera’s hard working staff. If you need any assistance, please contact Sham Douglas at Shamsiah@adelphia.net.
May 23rd through May 27th the PTA will be hosting a spring book fair. This is not a fundraiser but an opportunity for you to stock up on some summer reading for your children. Volunteers are needed to help run it, especially the night of May 26th when Madera will have its Open House. If you are available before and/or after school during that week, please let me know.
Speaking of Open House, all art docents, please make sure you have your class’s art ready for the art show that is scheduled for that night. If you have any questions, please contact Dana Piazza at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tuesday, June 7th will be our last PTA board meeting at 8:15am in P3. We will be saying goodbye and thank you to our old PTA board and installing the 2011/2012 PTA board. A celebratory year end party will then take place on Friday, June 10th. Time and place to be determined later.
Then finally, our last day of school is June 10th. This will be a busy day and help will be needed. We have 6th grade culmination at 8:30am, so if you can help with refreshments, please let me know. Then at the end of the day the PTA will once again have otter pops to give each student as we count down to the final minutes of the 2010/2011 school year. Help will be needed to hand out the pops.
So as you can see, we have a whole lot still going on with very little time. As always, if you have any questions or thoughts, please let me know…I will save them for the next president. Just kidding. I will be more then happy to answer any and all questions.
Welcome back and I hope to see you at one or more of our upcoming events.
Many thanks always,
Madera PTA President
PS – Our final PTA newsletter of the school year (the PACER) will be sent out at the end of the month so we need your articles ASAP. If you are hosting a PTA event please get your blurb about it to Julie Orme at email@example.com. That goes for all new board members that need to get their bios in.
