I have been asked to spread the word to our Madera families that tomorrow, March 4th, the teachers of Madera, as well as every teacher at every school in Simi Valley, are being “Called to Action”. So what does this mean? The Governor of California is proposing to fund education by extending current taxes (not creating new taxes). He wants this issue to go to the voters of California to decide school funding on a June ballot. As of today, they do not have 2/3 of the legislators supporting a vote by the public – they are 5 votes short. Without the 2/3 vote to put the decision on the ballot, schools are looking at severe budget cuts again next year. So now it is time to turn our words into action, hence a “Call to Action”. The teachers will be handing out material explaining things and asking for our support. Last week I sent a similar email from the State PTA asking you to contact your local legislator. This is what the teachers will be doing tomorrow. They want to drum up attention so that the community will get involved and help our schools. This is not a protest!!! This is just the teachers’ way of getting our attention and the attention of our legislature. Please show your support. Grab a flyer, ask questions, and get involved. This is for the future of our children. If we don’t act now just think of what will happen…larger class sizes, fewer programs and extra-curricular activities and even a shorted school year. How are our children supposed to succeed in life if they cannot get the best education possible? The choice is yours. Act now and contact your legislators.
