For those of you new to Madera, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Liz Hernandez and I have the honor of serving as your PTA President. My children have attended Madera since kindergarten. My oldest is now a freshman at Royal and my youngest is a 6th grader here at Madera. I wear many hats at Madera, PTA President, Campus Supervisor, substitute office clerk and most importantly, parent! As you can see, I love our school and I am so proud of it because we have such an incredible community of parents, teachers and staff that work together to build a safe and fun learning environment for all. I would also like to introduce you to our 2013/2014 Executive PTA Board: 1st VP-Programs – Kathleen Janiszewski, 2nd VP-Fundraising – Rachel Ford, 3rd VP’s-Membership – Maureen Yamada & Shay Lundstrom, Secretary – Jessica Depew, Treasurer – Lonnie Tapp, Auditor – Adam Greenberg, Historian – Bernandine Del Rio and Parliamentarian – Julie Orme, all proud parents of Madera students. If for some reason you need to contact any of us, our contact information is available on our website.
Each week I like to send updates, via email, just to keep you informed on what your PTA is up to. We also post everything on our website, www.madera-pta.org, such as the calendar for the school year, when our meetings are and any flyers for events. So make sure to check it regularly.
This week will be a busy one for all, I’m sure, so the only thing your PTA has planned is our annual Parent Meet & Greet Breakfast. This will take place tomorrow, August 19th. It will be located in the MPR at 8am. So after you say your farewells to your student, please join us for some coffee, treats and good old conversation. All are welcome! We hope to see you there.
Our membership drive has begun! We encourage all parents to join the PTA. There is no mandatory volunteer service and you do not have to attend the meetings, though we would love to have you! There are various ways to get involved, some taking maybe an hour of your time, while others a bit more. Some of it can be done in the comfort of your home. Like I said, there are many ways to be involved. All you have to do is ask one of our PTA board members and we would be more than happy to speak to you. I can tell you, the more involved you are, the more successful your student will be, and they love seeing moms and dads on campus helping. Plus, being a part of the PTA is the best way to stay informed with what is going on with our school. And all it takes is $5. It’s that simple!
I am looking forward to this school year, especially since this will be my last. I just know it is going to be a fabulous year! And if you have any questions, thoughts or concerns, please remember, you can always contact me or the board at any time.
Thank you and have a wonderful Sunday.
