Welcome to the new school year. I hope everyone had a great first day back. It was a joy seeing all the kids and how excited they were to be back with their friends. It was also nice to see all the parents gathered and catching up with the latest and greatest. I must say, yesterday’s turnout at the breakfast was terrific. I got to meet so many new people and catch up with friends I have not seen all summer. What a day.
At this time I would like to share some important PTA information with you. First, don’t forget to sign-up. It’s $5 per person for the year. If you have multiple children at Madera, they will each get credit for each membership your family signs up for.
Next, I saw a lot of you sign-up for various projects, thank you by the way, but we have some spots opened that need to be filled. If you are interested in helping with any of the following, please let me know(Boys’ Fun Night, Girls’ Fun Night, Lead Clay Docent, Lead Art Docent, Reflections, Jr. Olympics, Classroom Art Projects for Silent Auction, Art Show, Hospitality, Lead Room Parent, Upper Grade Field Day). I realize a lot of you are new to Madera. That’s ok because some of these events are super easy and do not take too much time. Plus me and the board will be there to help. So if you are interested and want to find out more, or if you know somebody who would be perfect for it, then let me know.
In the coming weeks, most likely after Back to School Night, I will send out schedules of what you signed up to do. For example, the baker schedule and reading lab. If you have a particular time in mind that works for you, let me know so I can work with you on that.
Our biggest event of the year is scheduled for Friday, October 22. That is our Harvest Festival/Silent Auction. If you know of anyone or you yourself own a business, please consider donating an item to the auction or become a sponsor. For more details, contact Julie Orme at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you just want to volunteer and work a shift at the festival, then contact our volunteer person, Jen Rosenstein at email@example.com.
Finally, our next board meeting will be on Tuesday the 14th at 8:15am in P3. All our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month but we alternate mornings and evenings so that all may attend at one point. A calendar of events and meetings is available in the school office.
So congratulations on this first week of school. I look forward to working with you and your children in order to make Madera the best place to learn and have fun. If you have any questions, thoughts or comments, please contact me anytime.
Many thanks to you all,
Madera PTA President
